Moments of Impact

Happy Saturday! What's in-store for everyone today? I am hosting a netiquette (internet ettiquette) workshop with a few classmates for Girl Scouts in our area. It should be a really good event. After that I'm headed to the library to get some homework done. I like to try to tackle as much homework on the weekend as I can to make the coming week a little easier.

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! Mine was relaxing and very special. I couldn't of asked for a better day. We ended watching "The Vow" which actually inspired me for the topic of today's post. There are some amazing quotes throughout by the character Leo that really get you thinking.

”I have a theory. My theory is about moments. Moments of impact. My theory is that, these moments of impact, these flashes of high intensity that completely turn our lives upside down actually end up defining who we are."
  • We have all had moments of impact at one time or another that test our stamina, courage, strength, and love. These moments happen when we least expect it and usually swipe us off out feet. They can change the path we thought we had figured out in an instant. They can bring us closer to our hopes or they can leave us in total disarray. They can help us rise to take on the next challenge or they can leave us questioning what to do next. The way in which they affect us, change us, and we react to them is unique to the individual. Each is different but each is important.
"The thing is, each one of us is the sum total of every moment that we’ve ever experienced, with all the people we’ve ever known. It is these moments that become our history, like our own personal greatest hits of memories that we play and replay in our mind, over and over again. A moment of total, physical, mental and every other kind of love."
  • Moments in life make up who we are, what we want, what we do, and where we want to go. These moments stay with us day in and day out. No matter how hard we try to forget them or move on, in the blink of an eye, something can bring them to the forefront of our minds. But what if forgetting them was actually more harm then good? Everything that happens to us helps to get us closer to the person we are meant to be. If we try to block out portions of our life we ultimately lose sight of the road ahead. Choices we made, experiences we had, events that took place - good and bad - are all apart of our history to remind us where we have come from which then allows us to see where we have yet to go.
"A moment of impact. A moment of impact has potential for change, has ripple effects far beyond what we can predict. Sending some particles crashing together making them closer than before, while sending others off into great ventures, ending where you never thought you’d find them. You see that’s the best thing of moments like these, you can’t, no matter how hard you try, control how they are going to effect you. You just got to let these colliding particles land where they may and wait until the next collision."
  • This is probably one of the most thought provoking quotes from the movie. We do not know why things happen when they happen and possibly we never will. This is the challenge we face with moments of impact. We cannot predict the story that they will create for us. No matter how hard we try we cannot keep these moments from happening nor can we decide how they will affect us. They will and are going to happen. So why not find joy in the collisions? Instead of trying to stop these moments from occurring; embrace them, appreciate them, and let them take you where they are meant to.

How have moments of impact defined you? Will you await the next collision?
