Putting Two and Two Together

Something I constantly find myself doing is trying to make sense where sense is not meant to be made. I am by nature an honest person and when it comes to dishonesty well, I just don't get it. When things leave me feeling uneasy, I end up contemplating; maybe they mean this?, maybe they meant that?, I'm sure they were just rushing through and forgot a part, or I probably heard it wrong. But no. Odds are they did mean what they said, they did not forget anything, and I did hear them right.

As you get to know people you develop an understanding of who they are. You also develop an understanding of who they are not, which can be a double-edged sword of sorts. Personally because of this I tend to raise a brow at most (not all) things that seem to be out of the ordinary. At this time I begin my downward spiral of attempting to put two and two together in hopes to make four.

However, we will never be able to add up to four if the truth is missing.

Even though I am still working on accepting the fact that you can't make lemonade out of limes I like to think I have learned a few tips over time to snap me back to reality when needed. They would be:

• follow your gut
• don't try to solve it
• not everyone is going to be sincere
• take what's in front of you for what it is

Questions of the Day:
1) Do you find yourself doing this at times?
2) Are there certain things that trigger you to do it?
3) What helps when a situation doesn't sit well with you?

  1. I do this this all the time, I can drive myself crazy with it. I've never thought of it as the truth being missing though - I'll bare this in mind the next time I come across this situation.

    1. I hope it helps! It's not a complete fix but can definitely ive a little peace of mind to help with the worry of trying to figure it out.

  2. I do this too, I love the phrase 'you can't make lemonade out of limes' it relates to a lot of things I find myself questioning about life and society sometimes.

    1. Most certainly. Its something I started to tell myself a while back that really helped me begin to make sense of it all.

  3. Uh I so do this. I'm so truthful that sometimes its bad haha. I remember as a kid I literally couldnt lie and would go back to my Mam and Dad and tell them stuff straight away. I can never understand why people feel the need to lie and that quote is just a perfect way of settling my mind when things like this crop up.

    1. I'm the same. My mom always tells me I have a black and white personality. But honestly, I would rather be too truthful then tell a lie.

  4. Sometimes there aren't answers to find, and you're absolutely right! All you can do is take things for what they are worth and realize not everyone is as genuine as they seem to be. It's a lesson that takes a while to accept for sure. Great post!

    1. Thanks Heather! And yea it takes time for sure. Even though these are things over time I have come to realize, I still struggle with it too.

  5. I'm always trying to find the bad in everything, it's pretty draining but I somehow always seem to go with my gut reaction, for the most part. But it's hard at times!

    1. Yes it is! I try to follow my gut too, but at the same time sometimes I don't want my gut feeling to be true so thats when I try to trying to make sense of of it when its not there!

  6. I loved this! I do this same thing all the time! I tend to ignore my gut reactions and try to find a more logical reason, or just one that hurts less than the truth, sometimes!

    1. You bring up a great point about with a reasoning behind doing so it trying to find something that hurts less. That's very true as to why too!

  7. This is a great post. I hate dishonesty. It makes me feel really crummy. I have a very hard time when I learn people are dishonest bc I really don't understand why you would want to be? Hope to see you link up tomorrow! This would be a great post!

    1. I'm the same way. I don't get it and at the same time I have tried to come to accept that I don't think I ever will. Thank you Shannon! And I did link it up! :))

  8. I've learned from my past that my gut will not steer me in the wrong direction. It's been when I've over thought and analyzed (and over ruled my gut) that I've done things I shouldn't have done. Great post.

  9. Great post! Always trust your instincts. I particularly like the line about how you can't make lemonade out of limes...I've never heard it before but I'll definitely be using it from now. Reading from Write Yourself Happy link up today!

    1. I've definitely realized over time when I look back on situations that I didn't 100% trust my instincts I should have. But the one good thing about it all is the times you don't it becomes a learning experience for the future. Thanks so much for stopping by Christine!

  10. Something I have learned as I got older: not everyone is sincere, some people are weird, not everyone has matured past high school. This was a shocker to me. Meeting people that are twice my age but half the maturity level. Just trust your instincts and don't get too close to someone until you have them figured out a bit.

  11. I've definitely learnt that not everyone is honest & kind. Some people do mean to be nasty & disloyal :/ xxx

    1. I've experienced it too. Its not fun to go through at all, but at the same time it does open your eyes to who they are which allows you to then take control of how you react to the things they do. So there is a little positive about it even though its a stinky situation.
