When I Look Back, I Look Forward

Hi and happy Thursday! Yesterday I had the opportunity to guest post over on Housewife Glamour for Heather and I couldn't help but want to share it today for Amanda's link up! It is a little different from my thinking out loud posts as of recent; shorter and no lists. Now I love putting together a long post, yet sometimes less words leave room more to think and that's my goal for today's post. The topic is something near and dear to me. It is something I feel is important to remind ourselves of often.

Being proud of who we are…including where we came from.

No one is perfect. Now, society tries to tell us otherwise, but I promise you that if you are trying to reach it you will be forever searching. The only thing we can hope to do is be the best us that we can be which includes learning and accepting where we came from and what has happened to us. Everything that we endure plays a role in developing us to be the person we are meant to be.

We all feel pain.

We all make mistakes.

We all encounter obstacles.

We all face disappointment.

In the end…we all are human.

These things will always be apart of our lives. There is no escaping them. However, we do hold the power to make them into something we celebrate. I am by no means trying to make this sound as if it is easy to do. It's not. It could take days, weeks, months, or even years and then just when you think that you have the hang of it, life will throw another curveball your way. The key is to not let it dictate us and our every move. If we can be prepared that this thing we call life is going to be filled with multiple hills and battles to overcome each new day ends up being more manageable.

Always remember::
Our struggles develop our strengths.
Adversity leads to opportunity.

& don't forget::
To be proud of who you are.

Questions of the Day:
1) What helps you overcome what life brings your way?
2) Is there one thing you find harder to accept over others?
3) How do you remind yourself to be happy with who you are?

  1. To answer questions 3, I remind myself that there are some people who don't have what I have right now: a loving family, a great boyfriend, good health and a job I love. That always makes me feel grateful. It also helps to stop comparing yourself to others. I often find that I'm completely happy with where I am now until I see someone else that seems to have it "better." You never know the details of someone else's life so you just have to be grateful for what you have. The grass is always greener I guess.

    1. Beautifully said. I remind myself of the same often. Even though something or someone appears to be or have more there are people who would love to have just an ounce of what we do.

  2. Always such uplifting posts :) I think what helps me get through the hard times is learning to actually appreciate them for the lessons they provide. I struggled with an eating disorder that almost cost me my life, and I always, always say that if I could go back and change things, I wouldn't. People give me the craziest looks, but it's true. I really believe that what I went through made me a better person, and that it helped shape me and get me to where I am now -- which is a pretty good place :)

    1. I had no idea. Thank you for sharing that with me. I definitely don't give you a crazy look for saying that. I completely agree with it. Struggles like that end up creating a sense of self that you would of never found otherwise. Yes in the moment it is hard and scary but in the end, if you let it, it can become something you end up being forever grateful for because of the person that you became by overcoming it. Just like you said and have done yourself. <3

  3. I find it so so so difficult to accept myself for who I am. I could write a massive list of things I don't like about me and I'm trying so hard to make positive life choices and do healthy things to make myself feel better about myself, like exercise, eat well and drink less. Hopefully I'll get there. I find I am happier with myself when I look after myself.

    1. You'll get there, I know it. Be proud of all the choices you have made so far no matter how big or small - like how you quit smoking, that is a hugeee accomplishment girl that some struggle with for their whole life. I like what you said about looking after yourself. Something that has helped me to try to stop looking at the list of things I am not happy with is by celebrating the little things I did accomplish/do. It also becomes self encouragement to do more. I at one point even started making a list of how those positive things made me feel. I did it so that when I began looking to that negative list inside my head I had a tangible list in my hand that showed me all the reasons I had to be happy about.

  4. I've started to accept that somethings we just can't change. It can be hard to accept but I think once you've started learning to accept things do become a little easier :)

    I also remind myself that nobody is perfect, everybody has flaws :)

    I've learnt to be happy with who I am, cos I can't be anyone else :) I'm me for a reason! Xxxx

    1. Love all of those! I remind myself of the last thing you said all the time! It makes me think of that Dr. Seuss quote too!
